A ruling BJP MLA in Karnataka was on Friday chargesheeted by the Lokayukta police in an alleged land grabbing case.

The chargesheet against Dasarahalli MLA S Muniraju and two others was filed in the Lokayukta court in Bangalore.

The MLA, accused of grabbing the over one acre land assigned by the government in the 1980s to a woman, has been charged with offences under Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 and IPC sections 120 (b) (conspiracy) and 420 (cheating).

Investigation Officer in the case Deputy Superintendent of Police, Lokayukta, Manjunath, said necessary sanction had been obtained from Assembly Speaker K.G. Boapaiah for prosecution of the MLA.

He also submitted the final report on Friday following which Lokayukta Judge N.K. Sundhindra Rao posted the case to July 17 for orders on issue of summons to the accused.

Puttaswamy, a resident of Dasarahalli, had alleged his mother-in-law Mallamma had been granted 1.15 acres of land through a government declaration at Kereguddadahalli in the 80s but Mr. Muniraju, misusing his power, claimed the property belonged to him.

The Lokayukta police in its report had confirmed the charges against Mr. Muniraju and two other accused Tahsildar Ranganathaiah, and Revenue Inspector Suresh.
