Mamata shocks all, decides to skip Prez, Vice-Prez poll
Kolkata, Jul 17: Mamata Banerjee has taken a shocking decision ahead of the presidential and vice presidential poll saying that she would abstain from casting her votes for the two elections which would be held on Jul 19 and Aug 7, respectively.
The Trinamool Congress supremo and West Bengal Chief Minister indeed has taken this shocking decision as both UPA and NDA had appealed her to support their candidates for the respective elections. However, Mamata rejected to support their candidates – Pranab Mukherjee (UPA’s candidate for Presidential poll), Hamid Ansari (UPA’s candidate for Vice Presidential Poll); PA Sangma (BJP and many other parties’ choice for Presidential Poll) and Jaswant Singh (NDA’s candidate for VP-poll).
Mamata had earlier proposed APJ Abdul Kalam and Gopal Krishna Gandhi’s names for presidential and vice-presidential elections. Unfortunately, both had denied contesting in the polls.
It was believed that Kalam and Gandhi’s decision might have cornered the TMC chief who may change her decision and will cast her votes either for UPA or NDA’s choice.
However, the latest decision by the West Bengal CM proved that she is not ready to cast her votes for those candidates whom she has not supported so far.
