In a setback to suspended IAS officer Y Srilakshmi, who was arrested in the Obulapuram Mining Corporation’s illegal mining scam, the High Court on Wednesday refused to grant her bail.

After hearing the arguments and counter arguments, the court rejected the bail petition of Srilakshmi.

The CBI counsel argued that she might tamper with evidence and influence the witnesses if she was granted bail.

Stating that her presence was still necessary for the investigation agency, the counsel appealed to court not to grant bail to Srilakshmi.

Meanwhile, Srilakshmi’s counsel observed that her client never tried to tamper with the evidence and the CBI was leveling baseless charges against her.

After hearing the arguments from both sides, the court concurred with the CBI and rejected the bail petition of Srilakshmi.

It may be recalled that the CBI has moved a petition in the High Court opposing the bail sanctioned to her by the CBI Special Court.
