Pranab wins prez nomination war, Sangma’s objection rejected
New Delhi, Jul 3: Despite all charges and controversies against him, Pranab Mukherjee’s nomination papers have been accepted by the returning officer after scrutiny on Tuesday, Jul 3.
Earlier opposition’s Presidential nominee and former NCP leader PA Sangma in a political masterstroke had challenged the nomination of UPA candidate Pranab Mukherjee.
Pranab is the Chairman of the Indian Statistical Institute, which according to Sangma is an office of profit. Sangma raised objections to this matter and stated that Pranab must be disqualified in the race for the President’s post.
The Election Commission earlier had postponed the scrutiny of papers for the Presidential poll slated to be held on Jul 19, 2012.
Janata party President Subramanian Swamy tweeted, “Pranab has various offices of profit secretly? That is the buzz in Hong Kong. I am only confirming postponement of scrutiny to tomorrow. Even that is illegal. I was told in Hong Kong his problem.”
