Swamy makes matters difficult for Pranab; fires fresh salvo
New Delhi, Jul 7: Team Sangma consisting of Janata party President Subramanian Swamy has fired a fresh salvo against UPA’s presidential nominee, Pranab Mukherjee citing that the former Finance Minister holds two more offices of profit besides the Chairmanship of the Indian Statistical Institute (ISI).
According to Swamy, Pranab still holds positions with the Ravindra Bharti society and Birbhum Institute of Engineering and Technology that is deemed an office of profit. As per the allegations made, Pranab is the Chairman of the Ravindra Bharti Institute and the Vice-President of the Birbhum Institute.
Talking to the media, Swamy accompanied by BJP’s Satpal Jain who claimed that the Election Commission’s Returning officer (RO) had not yet looked in to the genuineness of Pranab’s signature. Jain added that the RO was bound to look into the complaints raised but had not done them yet.
Swamy stated that a written complaint in this regard will be filed on Monday. With this fresh allegation, more and more roadblocks seem to be emerging for Pranab Mukherjee’s candidature. Following the flaw detected by the Sangma camp in the resignation letter of Pranab froM the ISI, as a reply to the complaint raised by the pro-Sangma group, the RO had said he was convinced that Mukherjee had quit as Chairman of Indian Statistical Institute on Jun 20 as claimed by him.
