Kolkata, Jul 10: Rape accused and Asian Games gold medallist Pinki Pramanik has been granted bail after 25 days of her arrest.

Pinki was arrested on Jun 14 after her live-in partner alleged her of rape and that she was a male.

According to reports, Pinki’s partner fainted in the court after the judgement was pronounced.

The middle distance runner, who won one silver medal and five gold medals between 2005 and 2006, retired in 2007. According to reports, due to her ‘excessive male hormones’, Pinki was not allowed in a Madurai national meet.

Following the rape allegations, Pinki was made to undergo a gender test which is yet to be made public.

Meanwhile, the athlete hogged the limelight after a 29-second MMS clip of Pinki undergoing a gender determination test in a private hospital went viral. The clip showed Pinki in an unclothed state undergoing the test.

A PIL was moved in the Calcutta High Court on Jul 6 after the MMS was leaked.

The court directed the West Bengal government to file an affidavit within two weeks on the progress of the investigation.

The West Bengal Human Rights Commission also demanded that the health, home and police departments look into the “inhuman torture” on Pinki in the police and jail custody.
