Haunted by Jagan, Andhra CM rushes to Delhi to meet Sonia
New Delhi, Jun 23: YS Jaganmohan Reddy seems to have become one of the most disturbing issue for ruling Congress party in Andhra Pradesh. A week after YSR congress’ landslide victory in the by-poll, the Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy on Friday, Jun 22 rushed to New Delhi to meet the party president Sonia Gandhi.
Though no one has disclosed what Kiran Kumar discussed in his secret meeting with Mrs Gandhi, but it is believed that they might have discussed the reason of the poll debacle.
Jaganmohan Reddy, who is currently lodged in Chanchalguda jail in Hyderabad, and his party YSR Congress won 15 out of 18 assembly seats and one Nellore Lok Sabha seat in the recently held by-poll election in the state. While Congress managed to bag only two seats, TRS won one.
After the death of former Andhra CM YS Rajasekhara Reddy, his son Jagan split up with Congress following the spat where the party refused to make Jagan the CM of the state.
Jagan formed his own party – YSR Congress and within months of its formation it gained much popularity among the Andhra people. Jagan’s family members including his mother and wife have also claimed that Jagan would be the Andhra Pradesh CM in 2014.
Citing the tremendous pressure all around, Kiran Kumar rushed to the national capital and met the party president. Many other crucial Congress leaders such as Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, Union Home Minister P Chidambaram, Defence Minister AK Antony and Health Minister and General Secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh Ghulam Nabi Azad were also present in the meeting which was held in Mrs Gandhi’s residence at 10 Janapath.
The Andhra Pradesh CM reportedly signed the nomination papers of the Finance Minister for contesting the Presidential election which will be held on Jul 19. Mr Mukherjee will resign as finance minister on Jun 26.
