The Telugu Desam-proposed maha dharna on Monday, demanding construction of flyover on the narrow road abutting the Indrakeeladri hill to ease traffic congestion may lead to a tug of war between the Telugu Desam and Vijayawada MP Lagadapati Rajagopal.

The narrow road abutting the hill is posing traffic problems to the commuters. This is the road that connects Bhadrachalam, Chennai and Hyderabad to the city. As there is no scope for expansion of the road, people on either side have been facing difficult task to cross the small patch of road.

Keeping this in view, the Telugu Desam and other opposition parties in the city have been agitating for construction of a flyover here for quite some time.

The Telugu Desam supremo Chandrababu Naidu has decided to hold a maha dharna at Kummaripalem centre to demand the flyover. The party has made all arrangements for the proposed dharna.

Taking objection to the dharna, the Vijayawada Parliament Member Lagadapati Rajagopal has decided to take the Telugu Desam and its leaders headlong and expose them in their own game.

He said he would also attend the dharna and explain the developmental activities being taken up under the Congress party rule in Vijayawada.

The BRTS road, the inner ring road and outer ring road initiated by the ruling party at a cost of Rs. 1500 crore are under various stages of completion.

He said without Inner Ring Road (IRR) connecting Ramavarappadu and Gollapudi via Milk Factory, it would not be possible to take up construction of flyover near Durga temple.

Once the Inner Ring Road was completed, the vehicles from Hyderabad and Chennai need not pass through the road abutting Durga temple.

The flyover constructed at a cost of Rs 40 crore near Milk Factory would reduce the traffic rush at Durga temple when the flyover was linked to Gollapudi road.

It was ridiculous on the part of TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu to resort to dharna demanding flyover without considering ground realities linked to the problem, he said.

‘The man who ignored Vijayawada development during his nine years of rule has no right sit on dharna like this. It is nothing but politicking,’ he said.

He also came down heavily of Telugu Desam MP Nama Nageswara Rao for not initiating works on flyover at Benz Circle even after six months of cornering the tender for construction. Police are on their toes and making arrangements to see that nothing goes out of control.
