What will Chandrababu do in Uttarakhand?

Published on Jun 24 2013 // Featured, Political News

New Delhi : Politicians descending on the ravage-torn Uttarakhand are hampering the rescue and relief operations undertaken by soldiers risking their own lives.

Now the TDP chief Chandra Babu Naidu left by a special flight to Dehradun along with his party MPs to ‘console’ the victims. This is seen as a mere political stunt to win the sympathies of the Telugus stranded there ahead of the elections, as no good would actually be done to anyone through his visit. He proposes to appear as a savior to the victims and impress on them that he came to them and not the Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy.

During calamities such as these, rescue operators generally detest the intervention of VIPs. When they come, they bring along their supporters. This would be unnecessary diversion to the security personnel engaged in life saving relief work.

When the Prime Minister or the Chief Minister of the state visit the spot, it would mean some help to the victims. They have the power to organize relief. But what will Chandrababu do, excepting shedding some tears?

This is the question being discussed in political circles. Though the Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy did not visit Uttarakhand, he stationed his ministers and IAS officers at Delhi to make all arrangements from the government side for the victims. He sent medical teams and food supplies. He also engaged private helicopters for air lifting the Telugu victims. Railway minister Kotla Surya Prakasha Reddy has arranged special trains from Delhi for moving the victims to their native places.

Arrangements were made for the stay and food of the victims being brought to Delhi at the AP Bhavan. They even arranged free travel by train. Buses were kept at the AP Bhavan, Delhi to take the passengers to station. While these are the arrangements that should be made and were made, what will Naidu do by going to a place ravaged by the floods? There are not even roads to reach the victims.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi is also being criticized for not going to Uttarakhand. But what will he do there excepting causing interruption to the work of security forces? Rahul Gandhi is not even a minister.

In situations like these, security forces and rescuers generally appeal to VIPs to stay off. They could do all their politicking after normalcy is restored.
