Congress wins absolute majority in Karnataka

Congress has won absolute majority in Karnataka Assembly elections. It bags 121 seats out of 223 in the assembly. The magic number to form the government is 112. Therefore is in a quite comfortable position in the house. BJP has won 40 seats closely followed by JD(S) with 39 seats. Former CM of the state Yedurappa had a slap on face as his party was able to win only 6 seats. Independents have won in 17 constituencies.
According to reports senior Congress leader Siddaramaiah is front runner in the CM race followed by Union minister SM Krishna and PCC president Parameshwar.
PCC president Botsa Satyanarayana has described the victory as positive vote for Congress party’s welfare plans.
