Laila Khan’s father moves Bombay HC seeking CBI probe

Slain Bollywood starlet Laila Khan’sfather on Tuesday moved Bombay High Court demanding a probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into her killing along with other members of the family.

The father of Laila alias Reshma Patel — Nadir Hussain Patel — has filed a writ petition in the high court demanding transfer of the case to the CBI from the Mumbai Police’s crime branch. The petition was filed on the grounds that the crime branch says Laila and her family members were Pakistani nationals.

Also, the petition says that the crime branch delayed the investigation, which had hardly started before July, until Jammu and Kashmir Police reported the arrest of Laila’s stepfather Parvez Tak, who also happens to be the main accused in the case.

The petitioner alleged that crime branch officer Sanjay More, who was earlier posted with a local police station, only troubled the family without investigating the case. The crime branch now claims that More was of big help in the case. Patel insists that with people like More in the crime branch the investigation would not be proper so the investigation be handed over to the CBI.

The crime branch had last week announced that the mystery behind Laila’s disappearance had been unravelled with the recovery of her skeleton along with her five relatives’ from their farmhouse in Igatpuri in Nashik district. The police have been looking for Tak’s associate and co-accused in the case who is said to have fled to Kishtwar in Jammu and Kashmir after committing the crime last year.
