Hyderabad, Aug 8: The Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy has for the first time openly admitted that he was against bifurcation of the state. He admitted that he had signed a representation to the Congress president Sonia Gandhi, highlighting the problems that would arise because of division along with other MLAs and ministers of the Seemandhra region. He said there was nothing wrong in taking the problems to the notice of his party chief.

Talking to the media for the first time after the creation of Telangana was announced by the CWC, the Chief Minister who has not been attending the Secretariat ever since the decision, stressed that there would be several problems that need to be addressed. He said only Congress party has taken the decision to divide the state and now all these problems including sharing of water and power resources should be dealt with by the government.

He warned the Samaikyandhra agitators not to resort to demolition of statues or indulge in other violent and destructive activities. He said such activities would be sternly dealt with.

Kiran said it was improper to demolish the statues of former prime ministers Indira Gandhi who wanted the state to be united, Rajiv Gandhi who developed the state and the Congress president Sonia Gandhi who also helped AP in several ways.

Kiran also urged the AP NGOs to withdraw their strike call. He said the state was now able to produce power to meet all its needs and almost all the water reservoirs were full, promising a good harvest. It is not proper to go on strike at this time and belay the hopes of the farmers, he said. He said the government formed a cabinet sub-committee and would arrange audience with the NGOs. He asked the employees to represent their problems to the committee. He also said all concerned who were opposing the state bifurcation could represent to the high power committee set up under union minister A K Antony. He said even student organizations also could meet the committee and express their problems.

The Chief Minister dismissed the allegations of the TRS leaders that there were 1 lakh Seemandhra employees illegally working in the state. He said there were only 5,620 employees still to be repatriated of the 18,856 identified under the 610 GO and presidential order. He also ridiculed KCR’s claim that Telangana would buy 10,000 mw of power from Chattisgarh. He said the entire power generated by Chattisgarh was mere 6,130 mw. He said of this 4,400 mw of power was being generated by the private sector there. He also said Chattisgarh was unlikely to be connected to the grid in the next 3 years.

The Chief Minister said if Telangana was created, there would be immediate power shortage of 50 percent in the region. He advised the TRS and other parties not to tell lies to the people.

YSR started ‘T’ slogan

The Chief Minister it was late Dr. Y S Rajasekhara Reddy who raised the Telangana slogan as long back as 2001-2001, through over 40 MLAs, when TRS was not even formed. He said later on 2008, TDP took a decision in favour of the new state. He said apart from MIM and CPI(M) all other parties had supported Telangana. He said now some parties (apparently meaning TDP) were staging dramas.
