CM declares he is against state bifurcation
Talking to the media for the first time after the creation of Telangana was announced by the CWC, the Chief Minister who has not been attending the Secretariat ever since the decision, stressed that there would be several problems that need to be addressed. He said only Congress party has taken the decision to divide the state and now all these problems including sharing of water and power resources should be dealt with by the government.
He warned the Samaikyandhra agitators not to resort to demolition of statues or indulge in other violent and destructive activities. He said such activities would be sternly dealt with.
Kiran said it was improper to demolish the statues of former prime ministers Indira Gandhi who wanted the state to be united, Rajiv Gandhi who developed the state and the Congress president Sonia Gandhi who also helped AP in several ways.
Kiran also urged the AP NGOs to withdraw their strike call. He said the state was now able to produce power to meet all its needs and almost all the water reservoirs were full, promising a good harvest. It is not proper to go on strike at this time and belay the hopes of the farmers, he said. He said the government formed a cabinet sub-committee and would arrange audience with the NGOs. He asked the employees to represent their problems to the committee. He also said all concerned who were opposing the state bifurcation could represent to the high power committee set up under union minister A K Antony. He said even student organizations also could meet the committee and express their problems.
