Asaduddin Owaisi surrenders in 2005 case

Majlis-e-Ittehad-ul Muslimeen (MIM) supremo Asaduddin Owaisi surrendered before a court in Medak district of Andhra Pradesh on Monday in connection with a case filed against him in 2005.

Mp from Hyderabad, Asaduddin Owaisi, and his younger brother, jailed MIM legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi, in 2005, obstructed a road widening project in Medak district and threatened the then district collector with dire consequences after police said a place of worship had to be removed.

Cases were filed against the Owaisi brothers and after the duo surrendered before police and obtained bail, they briefly appeared before court, but stopped appearing after 2010. Cases under various section including rioting, promoting enmity between groups and assault on public servant and obstructing duties, among others were filed against them.

After he surrendered in the court in Medak today, Asaduddin was sent to judicial custody till February 2, reports said but official confirmation is awaited.
His surrender came after Akbaruddin, facing sedition charge for a “hate speech”, was produced before a court in Medak in connection with the case.

Akbaruddin was arrested from Hyderabad on January 8 and sent to judicial custody for the “hate speech” by a Nirmal court, was brought to Sangareddy town in Medak from Adilabad district jail.
