Unhappy with CBI chargesheet, Ashok Chavan’s supporters seek Sonia Gandhi’s intervention
Upset with the developments in the Adarsh Housing Society scam case, a group of Congress MLAs loyal to former Maharashtra chief minister Ashok Chavan have sought time from party president Sonia Gandhi to seek her intervention in the matter.
Congress sources said that around 20 MLAs have sought time to meet Gandhi. They have been unhappy with the Maharashtra government action in Adarsh case and the Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) naming Chavan in its recently filed charge-sheet.
The MLAs believe that the Maharashtra government should have filed an affidavit immediately after a judicial commission verdict that Adarsh land belonged to the state government so there was no need for a CBI probe as it was initiated on the grounds that the plot belonged to the defence ministry.
It could be mentioned that the Maharashtra government had filed an affidavit in the Bombay High Court stating that the CBI has no jurisdiction to probe the Adarsh scam. The affidavit was filed on July 3, a day before the CBI filed its charge-sheet against Chavan and other accused.
