New Delhi, Jul 9: Joining the critics of Pranab Mukherjee, the yoga guru Baba Ramdev hurled several questions to the former Finance Minister.

Mr Mukherjee, who is currently busy in campaigning for the presidential election which will be held on Jul 19, has been criticised by Ramdev. The yoga guru claimed that Congress led UPA have lowered the position of president post in the country after nominating Pranab Mukherjee as their candidate.

While communicating with media, Ramdev on Sunday, Jul 8 stated, “The Congress and the UPA government have lowered the dignity of the President’s post by nominating Mukherjee as its candidate for the top post.”

“The President’s post is a respectable constitutional post and everybody should strive to ensure its sanctity,” Ramdev added.

Ramdev’s statements on Mr Mukherjee surfaced when he was asked many questions on Mr Mukherjee’s failure as the finance minister. Burning issues such as economy, inflation, price rise and black money were the main concerns in the press meet.

Hours after Ramdev’s statement on Mr Mukherjee, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool Congress also hurled some shocking allegations against Mr Mukherjee.

A TMC leader said, “When Pranab babu began his political career in Bangla Congress in the 1960s, he was helped by the Marxists and remained a friend of the CPI(M) even in the middle of his career.”

“And now, when he is leaving party politics, he is again receiving help from the Left parties. He has been a very close friend of the CPI(M) all through his life,” he said.

The CPI(M) has given support to Pranab in his bid to become the President whereas the Trinamool Congress, though being the most important ally of the Congress in the UPA coalition, is yet to make up its mind whether to support him.

The former Union Finance Minister will fight against former Lok Sabha speaker PA Sangma, who is supported by the BJP, BJD, AIADMK and some other NDA constituents, in the Jul 19 presidential election.
