CBI charges Ramdev’s associate Balkrishna
The CBI on Tuesday filed a chargesheet against Acharya Balkrishna , a close aide of yoga guru Ramdev, for submitting fake documents to obtain a passport.
Balkrishna has been charged with violating the Passport Act ( section 12) , cheating, criminal conspiracy and forgery for purpose of cheating. The chargesheet was filed at a special court in Dehradun.
The CBI has also filed a case against Radhakrishan Sanskrit College in Khurja ( Uttar Pradesh), whose activities were found to be dubious.
“When a CBI team raided the college in Khurja last year, 11 degrees were found, of which seven were bogus,” a CBI official claimed.
A chargesheet was also filed against Naresh Chand Dwivedi, the former principal of the college, for supplying fake degrees to Balkrishna that helped him obtain a passport.
The Sanskrit college is affiliated to Sampoornanad Sanskrit University ( Varanasi). In his passport application, Balkrishna provided his high school, graduate and post graduate degrees and CBI sources claimed all the documents bear the signature of Dwivedi.
In 1998, Balkrishna was issued a passport by the Bareilly passport office.
In 2005, the local intelligence unit ( LIU) of the Uttarakhand police conducted an inquiry into his citizenship and found that Balkrishna was a Nepalese citizen.
A report filed by the LIU said he applied for a passport as an Indian citizen, showing Haridwar as his birthplace.
Balkrishna have always maintained that he is an Indian citizen.
” I was born at Kankhal in Haridwar and studied there. Though my parents and brothers are citizens of Nepal, I am Indian as I have stayed long in India.”
