Not ruling out anything, says Chandrababu Naidu on alliance with NDA
New Delhi: Amid speculation that his party was moving closer to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N Chandrababu Naidu today said that nothing can be ruled out at the moment.
“I am not ruling out anything, I am not saying anything,” he told NDTV.
The former NDA convener, who concludes his three-day visit to the national capital on Monday, however, said this was not time to discuss politics as Andhra Pradesh was in “disaster” because UPA government was treating the issue of division of the state as an “internal affair” of Congress.
“Nation is in crisis. Reason is Congress party’s misrule, non-governance and corruption. It is very clear that the country is suffering. As an economic reformer, I initiated economic reforms (as Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh). At that time (Atal Bihari) Vajpayee was Prime Minister… Today, there is frustration. Total economy has collapsed. There is no growth, no employment potential and the youth are totally frustrated,” Mr Naidu said.
Mr Naidu, who met BJP president Rajnath Singh on Saturday, also said, “Now, we have to play a positive role,” noting that his party had played a crucial role directly or indirectly in forming three governments – National Front, United Front and NDA – at the Centre.
Mr Naidu did not directly react to question as to whether his party would support Narendra Modi as the Prime Minister. But he made it clear that the Congress was a bigger problem.
The TDP chief, who met President Pranab Mukherjee and sought his intervention to find an amicable solution to the problem of division of Andhra Pradesh, said Congress was creating problems in Andhra Pradesh for their political gains.
“They are playing politics with our people. For over 2 years, they let Telangana boil and now other parts of the state. They say TRS (Telangana Rashtra Samiti) will merge and are hoping Jagan will join them after elections,”said Naidu.
But didn’t Mr Modi reach out to both the areas as well when he said Jai Telangana and Jai Seemandhra? “What Mr Modi had said is that welfare of the people of both the parts should be done,” explained Mr Naidu.
So does it mean TDP can do business with Mr Modi? “Right now, I am here for my people and I wont say anything. But the Congress has pushed the country into a crisis and we will take our decision in national interest,” said Mr Naidu.
