KIRAN’S CHOICE OF INFORMATION COMMISSIONERS INVALID: COURT
Looks like Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy is a world of his own. Else how would one explain his decision to ignore Governor’s directions? Wondering what we are talking about? Well, this refers to the appointment of four Information Commissioners.
The CM received a major jolt from the Andhra Pradesh High Court on Thursday.
Responding to a writ petition filed by a retired IAS officer Padmanabha Reddy, the High Court today quashed the appointment of theĀ four Information Commissioners and directed the government to make fresh appointments in their place.
The four Information Commissioners are: Imtiaz Ahmed, L Tantiya Kumari, M Vijaya Nirmala, and V Venkateswarlu. It is learnt that Vijaya Nirmala and V Venkateswarlu have political background. Vijaya Nirmala is an erstwhile Praja Rajyam Party leader while V Venkateswarlu is a youth Congress leader.
It’s worth mentioning here that the State Governor E S L Narasimhan had in the past rejected their appointment citing their political background as reason. Yet, the Kiran government chose to appoint the same candidates. Now the court verdict has put the Kiran’s government in an embarrassing situation.
