Former Prime Minister I.K.Gujral passed away

Former Prime Minister of India Indra Kumar Gujral, who was admitted in a private hospital at Goregoan near New Delhi, died on Friday morning because of acute breathing problems.

He was born on 4th December, 1919 at Jhelum (Now in Pakistan). He went to jail for taking part in quit-India movement in year 1942. He served as Minister for Information and Broadcasting during emergency period in late Mrs. Indira Gandhi’s regime. Later, he quits Congress to join Janata Dal party in mid 80s. He was elected to Rajya Sabha in year 1992. He served as Foreign Affairs Minister in VP Singh’s cabinet. Later, he was assigned to same task in HD Dewa Gouda’s cabinet. He gained enough experience holding various port folios like Communications and Parliamentary Affairs, Information and Broadcasting, Works and Housing etc, before he replaced HD. Devagouda as 12th Prime Minister of India in 21st April 1997. However, he served in that post for 11 months only.
